Starting with Flute

Indian Flute is of 7 holes.First hole is the one where we blow air and the rest holes are where we keep fingers. Most beginners try to start with fingers closed. Even in my life, when I teach anybody, I have found that they bother about fingering. As per my opinion, fingering is nothing if you become capable of blowing well. So now, forget about fingering. Let's concentrate on blowing correctly.

There are 3 important things in practicing this step.
 1. Place the flute so that the blow hole coincides with the middle   part of the lower lip.
 2. Inhale normally and exhale it totally as a blow without breaks.Break only after being fluent in it.
 3. Don't blow with much effort. In this step we need lower note.To get the lower note, we have to blow smoothly.

The following video shows how to blow correctly. It will show in different angles so that you'll be more aware of it.
<Video will come live on sunday>

Do blowing with all holes open till you become 100% capable  in it. That means you should be able to make the sound even with a quick placement of the flute. It  gives you the ability to keep the flute in the right position faster.

Then only start closing the finger holes. In this case firstly you should close the 1st finger hole from the side of the blowing hole using the1st finger of the left hand.(If you are right handed.) If you're left handed, do it from the 1st finger of the right hand. In the same way after being fluent in this step, move to the next. This step by step sequence will be discussed in extent with diagrams in the next article. If you skip without practicing hard, I believe that you will not gain the ability to play fluently.
And do practice regularly atleast few minutes. It develops your flute ability and also relaxes your mind.... Hope this article helped you..

What made me!

I'm not an artist obviously. But if you wanna get something from me, I'm ready to share.

I, who was born to an aesthetic family, used to play the synth and sing since I was a kid.My father who was a Music teacher conducted classes to school children, at our home.I was sitting in the class room listening to his lessons. Although, even I was so small that I was unable to walk properly, I tried to understand Music Lessons. That's how I got music.

After entering the secondary school (RCG) in grade 6, I started doing music with my friends under Orchestras and Choirs in the school. After I entered 7th grade, I got an interest in Flute as I heard my father playing it.I told him to teach me the flute. So he, along with my mother taught me the 7 notes and the basics of the flute and told me to develop it.So I then learned it my self.People say that my style is unique.I think it's because of that.

When mentioning my achievements briefly, In year 2009 I won the All island 1st place in Ragadhari Flute category. Then, In my final 2 school years I participated in more than 3oo musical events and festivals while following Engineering (Maths) stream. In 2012 I did a small concert of my own.And also in the same year, I got the entrance in NIT Kurukshetra under a foreign scholarship scheme.Since then too I participated in many Musical Fests, competitions and could win also..

So as I think, Although I'm not an artist, as I've collected experience in the field, If there's anyone who is interested in learning flute, I may be able to help!!!

Peace

Why MiAY ? How to use

Hi there, Welcome back! In this post, I'm going to explain two things basically.

1. What made me to create this blog.

2. How to get the maximum use of this blog.

As I mentioned in the previous post, I was born as a Sri Lankan.
And then I got a scholarship for engineering at NITkkr in India. After coming to the college, there was a talent show for the freshers. In that thing I played some instruments Including Flute, Guitar and Harmonica(Mouth Organ).Just after performing, some students talked to me
and asked me to teach them particular instruments. I told "okay, I will". Then some others had messaged me on facebook also requesting me to teach them. But I was wondering how to find time to teach this much people. I could not refuse at all as my friends, seniors and post graduated teachers also were among them. So I came into the decision that I will start a blog to teach those music instruments to others. Most no of requests came asking me to teach Flute. The rest were looking forward to learn Guitar and Mouth Organ from me.So here you go,

2. How to get the maximum use of this blog.

Actually, I'm gonna start from zero itself. So even if you haven't ever touched a music instrument, after following these lessons you'll be able to play the selected instrument well.
I'll be explaining step by step using illustrations. At the end of each post, I'll add a video explaining further. So If you're interested in learning Flute, go to Flute section. If it is Guitar, go to Guitar section. Follow the steps, learn. You can inquire anything using the comment box. So wish you all a bright music life!!!!
